Morin khuur – Horse head fiddle

The Morin Khuur, or horsehead fiddle, is Mongolia’s iconic national instrument, known for its deep, soulful sound and distinctive carved horse’s head. Traditionally made with horsehair strings and bow, it reflects the Mongolian people’s strong bond with horses and the steppe. Often played during ceremonies, festivals, and in nomadic homes, its melodies evoke the spirit of the land—mimicking galloping hooves, wind, and the stories of the ancestors.
